Jon (left) & Marc (right) Marcello ![]()        The goal for Marc and Jon has always been to bring a restaurant into the Town of Brockport that offers a great lively atmosphere, top quality food & service, accompanied with LOW prices.        Jon & Marc were just 14 when they began bussing tables at Brockport's Village Pantry. They continued to work at the Village Pantry all through High School and into their college years. During this time, many of the customers joked with the boys about getting "stock options" or suggesting that they should just buy the restaurant. Little did anyone know, but that's what would happen...        Both Marc and Jon attended SUNY Brockport. Marc graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice and Spanish. Jon graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology. While both had planned for careers in the Criminal Justice field, they decided to take a detour back to the restaurant business. The two received a call from their father who was opening a new restaurant in California and they decided to go to California to run the restaurant with their father. After about 1 year, the two returned back to Brockport with a rejuvenated enthusiasm for the restaurant business and a purchase offer for Leo Cammilleri and Jerry Rathbun, the two owners of the Village Pantry. After 25 years, Jerry and Leo were ready to move on and who better to hand off the business to than to two local boys that had the enthusiasm, training and community ties to keep a successful business thriving.        The brothers embarked on numerous improvement activities to the business. They revamped the decor of the back dining room. They wanted to dress it up and give it a more formal air. They built an outdoor dining patio complete with a wrap-around deck. The front end of the restaurant was renovated to have the look and feel of a 50's style diner complete with a juke box. The menu was enlarged to include more healthy choices. They brought back some salads ideas from California, they now proudly serve Certified Angus Beef® steaks and their sautes that are becoming very popular. The children's menu has been enlarged and the prices reduced. The two new owners want to focus on providing top-end home style cooking while keeping the prices affordable. In 2003, the Village Pantry was officially renamed to 58 Main. The new business name, signage, menus and web site were rolled out.        Becoming the owners has not meant that Marc and Jon have turned in their aprons. You'll still find both of them cooking, doing dishes, bussing tables or whatever else needs to be done. Marc and Jon are twins that have done pretty much everything together throughout their lives. They enjoy a lot of the same things and spend a large amount of time together. Weather permitting, the two try to golf together at least once a week. This familiarity with each other helps them in managing the day-to-day business matters. Marc has taken on most of the accounting responsibilities while Jon handles most of the Public Relations and Advertising activities. Both Marc & Jon give their mother a lot of credit with their successes. "She's always helped us and encouraged us." |
